Familiar Landscapes

Familiar Landscapes is a response to the repetition of memory and experience as it relates to place.  Ms. West has photographed her hometown of Dahlonega, Georgia with an indeterminate perspective: both ominous and welcoming at the same time. Different locations significant to the artist’s life are imbued in this series with the possibility of an alternative interpretation. The actual topography may remain the same, however the artist’s experience with its memory continues to evolve. What is persistent in this series is the theme of overgrowth and architectural decay, which is endemic throughout the South, as nature slowly reclaims everything.
